Sun Safety

Solmate is built around a simple truth: a plan should be willing to say enough. The cap is not an obstacle between you and more color. The cap is the point.

How Solmate thinks about exposure

A timer with boundaries.

The app can help you follow a plan. It cannot make UV exposure risk-free, and it will never pretend otherwise.

01

Your cap is the safety story

Each session is sized from your skin type, the live UV and your recent sun, and nothing takes it past today's max: not a goal shade, not a product, not Extend. Solmate never stretches a session because you want more color.

02

SPF counts. Oil does not buy time.

SPF is credited in the plan math, at a fraction of the label. Oils and lotions can change the ritual, but they never lengthen a session; oil shortens it.

03

A recommended window, never a safe window

Solmate recommends an outdoor window based on the plan. It never calls that a safe tanning window, because no sun exposure is risk-free.

During and after a session

The quiet parts of the plan matter.

Flip

Reminders keep the session honest.

Solmate reminds you when to flip and when to reapply sunscreen, and asks straight away if you tell it you swam, sweated or toweled off, so those decisions do not disappear when you put your phone down.

Pause

Photosensitivity tightens the plan.

Medications, health conditions, or a history of skin cancer can change the situation. Those answers halve the longest session Solmate will plan, raise the burn-risk grade and keep the sunscreen advice at SPF 50, and Sol tells you why.

Ask

Some questions belong with a professional.

The app is guidance and reminders, not a diagnosis or a substitute for care. If your skin hurts, blisters or worries you, see a clinician rather than relying on the app or a photo scan.

Recover

Rest is part of every plan.

Time away from a session is not lost progress. Every plan holds at least 48 hours between session starts, and reporting tender skin in your diary means a rest day. On a rest day, adults can still choose Tan anyway once, after Sol explains why it recommends resting; it is never offered while your skin is tender.

Plain-language fundamentals

Take the sun seriously.

Burn risk adds up.

Burn risk is cumulative. Ending one session does not erase earlier exposure.

Water is support, not protection.

Stay hydrated, but do not treat hydration as protection from UV exposure.

Protect your eyes.

Do not ignore eye comfort or protection while spending time in direct sun.

Children need their own care.

Solmate is for ages 13 and up. Under 18, sessions are sized gentler, and Tan anyway, Ask Sol and photo scans are for adults only. Younger children need their own care, not an app.

When to step away from the app

Skin concern? Unexpected reaction? Ask a healthcare professional.

Get medical advice for skin concerns, reactions, questions about a medication or condition, or anything that makes sun exposure feel uncertain. Solmate should never be the reason you delay care.
